Is the autumn alchemy the only change happening this month?

Visiting the Winchester cathedral grounds this autumn showcases the change in seasons like an exhibit made to flaunt the beauty of a park now covered in amber leaves and the bespoke cathedral glistening under the delicate touch of autumn sunlight.

This new season brings change around us all; as oak trees shed their summer colours and become dressed in elegant gowns of copper and amber, they frame the medieval architecture of the cathedral.

The steady rhythm of nature’s changing seasons can bring reassurance to the often daunting idea that nothing ever truly stays the same forever.

Still, in this change, beauty can be found in trying new habits and discovering fresh interests, reflecting on the seasons this autumn and embracing the beauty of change by stepping outside of your comfort zone and welcoming the transformation this month.

The transformation this season brings truly is upon us and reflected within the community as earlier this week, from the 22nd to the 25th of October, Winchester University held graduation ceremonies for their class of 2024 and sent off graduates with an inspirational speech from university Chancellor Hugh Dennis as generations of grandparents, parents and siblings gather to watch and celebrate the resilience of graduates that has brought them to this moment of such possibilities and hope for the future.

Events happen throughout this transitional period, and we are encouraged to welcome and embrace the excitement of possibilities and build resilience by trying new things.

Falling Oak leaves dance in the golden sunlight and land scattered like glitter in a snow globe across the lawn, masking imperfections.

As the trees begin to let go of old leaves, we can reflect on what we may leave behind this season.

It’s no surprise that the growing trend of mindfulness and self-reflection has become prominent this time of year, so why not take time to reflect this month on the cathedral grounds surrounded by the changing season?

You could sit upon one of the many benches, that decorate the pathways leading to the cathedral, walk under the amber leaves, or settle down amongst the leaves and take a moment to watch as the sunlight cascades down through the speckled sky pouring over and engulfing anything it touches into a golden haze.

Autumn encourages us to embrace change and be resilient, as nothing truly worth having will come easy.

Find beauty in the fleeting moments and welcome the new this season.
