Chesil Theatre in Winchester has welcomed back its young thespians for another year of strong friendships, dramatic explorations and fun.

Chesil juniors (Years 4-6) and Chesil seniors (Years 7-13) are a key part of the theatre’s community.

They meet separately, once a week, to develop an exciting play performed in the Chesil Theatre.

As well as this, Chesil youth get amazing opportunities to perform alongside the adult company.

For example, the bi-annual summer outdoor productions which in past years have included: Treasure Island, Mid Summer's Night Dream and Wind and the Willows.

Chesil youth have been the ensembles to the lead role in many of these productions, providing great acting and backstage experience for them.

Nicky Hubbard; the director of Chesil seniors, described the atmosphere in the seniors group.

Nicky said: “I love the kids' vivid imagination and sense of humour when we do improv.

“I also love to see how they develop when we do our annual production, the atmosphere is really friendly and exuberant.

“We have come a long way together in the last three years which makes us something akin to a close-knitted somewhat quirky family.”

As well as a great community, Chesil is held in a lovely building; St Peter's Church with its 12th Century foundation is a perfect setting for an engaging theatre community.

Drop by to find out more about Chesil youth and the theatre on one of their open mornings which take place on the first Saturday of every month 10.30am until 12.30pm.
