Food is a very important part of my life, so when I discovered the unique options that I could sample during my trip to New England, my mouth started to water!
Our journey began north of Boston where we picked up the RV which was to be our home for the next nine nights.
We headed north towards our first stop of Bar Harbour, Maine - a stunning coastal town on the edge of Acadia National Park.
Whilst there we hired bikes to explore, the scenery was majestic with countless beautiful views of valleys and mountains.
Our planned route took us to Jordan Pond House, home of the ‘Popover Sundae’ which is a combination of ice cream and something similar to a Yorkshire pudding, all covered in chocolate sauce.
It tasted as good as it sounds!
Our next stop was the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
After a long journey, we needed a burger and pulled the RV into an inauspicious car park.
This really was a case of not judging a book by its cover, the burger we had was succulent and delicious and came with proper American fries,
We spent a few days exploring the natural beauty of the White Mountains including a hike which ended in a swim in a pool filled with icy water from a spectacular waterfall.
Our next stop was Vermont where we visited the home of Ben & Jerry’s.
We sampled a new flavour called ‘Marshmallow Sky’ which was marshmallow ice-cream with chunks of cookie dough and chocolate.
It was unbelievably sweet, but this did not detract from the exceptional taste.
After exploring the ‘Flavour Graveyard’, where retired flavours are ‘depinted’ to rest, we departed for Mystic, Connecticut.
Here we popped in to ‘Mystic Pizza’ where it was impossible not to know that the restaurant appeared in the movie of the same name.
The décor featured lots of framed movie snapshots which was fun, but the pizza was average and not what I hoped for.
Our last stop was Cape Cod, Massachusetts where we spent a few days enjoying the beach.
We also took the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, then a bus along the stunning coastline and over the ‘Jaw’s Bridge’ which was used in the film, it’s ironic that people were jumping off into the water below.
We ate at ‘The Seafood Shanty’ in Edgartown where I had their famous lobster roll which was awesome and one of the best things I have ever had.
Looking back on our adventure, I wouldn’t change it one bit.
I ate food I had never tried before, as well as some new versions of my firm favourites.
The scenery and the places we visited took my breath away, and each of the states were appealing in their own way.
Overall, I would really recommend a trip to New England.
