Folland Sports 6 v Braishfield 1
Due to a large number of absentees, it was a tough day last Saturday for Braishfield in which both managers did well to field competitive sides.
In the Southampton League Premier Division, the 1st XI travelled to Hamble to play a much different looking Folland Sports side. They never got properly going against the rejuvenated Planemakers, and the hosts made their superiority count during the first half as they took a commanding 3-0 lead. Just before the interval, Jamie Nash reduced the deficit to restore some faint hope of an unexpected recovery. Braishfield had their moments during a closer second half and did create a few half chances but Follands were more ruthless and scored a further three goals to run out easy 6-1 winners.
Meanwhile, in Junior Division 2 the 2nd XI continued their recent revival with a creditable draw against a fancied Crofton Saints Reserves side. Braishfield started well and dominated the first half, but against the run of play they fell behind after a rare defensive slip was punished. However, their response was excellent and deservedly drew level when Tom Grant headed home. Braishfield remained on top during the second half until suffering two quick injuries saw them end the game with 10 men and clinging on for a point.
Tomorrow afternoon rather bizarrely neither team has a fixture. The next game is on Saturday, December 14 when the 1st XI host St Francis.
