Shan Masood has made his mark in Hampshire Hawks' thrilling Super League victory.

The Pakistan Test captain impressed in his debut match, scoring 56 off 41 balls and playing a crucial role in the super over win against Rangpur Riders in the 2024 Global Super League.

The Hawks are competing in the inaugural Global Super League taking place in Guyana alongside four other international teams.

All matches, including the final on December 6, are being played at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence with a $1m prize at stake.

Tom Prest and Ali Orr started the innings, but Zak Chappell soon took out Prest, followed by Joe Weatherley.

This brought Masood to the crease, who had just arrived in Guyana on Tuesday.

He teamed up with Orr, and the pair managed a 49-run partnership, showcasing excellent running between the wickets. Orr was dismissed after scoring 28.

Toby Albert's stay was cut short by Harmeet Singh, who also dismissed Felix Organ.

With five overs remaining, Hampshire had only managed 90 runs, and things did not improve much as they ended their innings on 132.

Masood was caught out at long off after reaching his 50 on debut.

The Riders started strong in their chase, hitting 46-0 by the fifth over.

However, Danny Briggs and Liam Dawson put the brakes on their momentum.

Briggs claimed his first Hampshire wicket since 2015, and Dawson picked up two wickets in two balls.

The Riders struggled to score, and Dawson finished his four overs with figures of 2-23.

James Fuller then removed Nurul Hasan, and Wayne Madsen and Kushdil Shah were run out in quick succession.

The Riders needed seven runs from the final six deliveries.

Although Fuller bowled Harmeet Singh with the third ball, a fumble on the final delivery allowed the Riders to level the scores, taking the match to a super over.

At 2.30am UK time, Hampshire took on the Riders in the Super Over.

The Riders batted first, scoring 12.

James Fuller hit a six off the first ball of Hampshire's reply but was caught and bowled the next.

With the Riders becoming favourites, Hampshire needed five off the last two balls.

Liam Dawson then hit the penultimate ball into the stands, securing a remarkable victory for Hampshire.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, November 30, against Lahore Qalandars.
