Fordingbridge Turks Reserves   1    Braishfield Reserves   9

Storm Bert had caused havoc with the local fixtures, but this Southampton Junior 2 match surprisingly survived and a ruthless Braishfield took full advantage.

On a heavy and slippery surface, Fordingbridge started strongly but Braishfield defended well, and breakaway goals from Ben Jacobs and Tommy Taylor saw them two up by the half-hour mark. The hosts, however, kept up the pressure and reduced the deficit from the penalty spot before the halftime whistle sounded. Aided by the strong wind, Braishfield were dominant for the majority of the second half. The predatory Jacobs soon completed his hat trick and, despite the worsening conditions, solo efforts from Ben Beddoes, Jamie Nash, Jack Rainsley and Andy Gregory completed an impressive 9-1 victory, their biggest for many years.

Tomorrow afternoon both sides are due to return to action. The 1st XI travel to Hamble to play Folland Sports whilst the 2nd XI host Crofton Saints Reserves.

Broughton cause cup upset!

Meanwhile, Broughton are currently enjoying their best season for many years. In midweek they caused a huge upset in the Southampton Senior Cup when they travelled to Wessex League Premier Division side Hythe & Dibden and won 1-0. In a closely contested affair, they more than matched their illustrious hosts and a 70th minute strike from Ben Allen was decisive against last season’s beaten finalists. Their reward is an away tie at Lymington Town Reserves, who themselves also caused a shock in this competition when they recently knocked out Romsey Town.
