Here are the latest results for the Winchester & District Table Tennis League.
Division 1
Owslebury A 3 - 7 Medstead The scoreline would have been closer, had Medstead not clinched the last three sets from deuce in the 5th game. A great match played in good spirit, with James Ellicott Player of the Match and Tony Amies also scoring a maximum for Medstead.
Five Tees B 1 - 9 Kings A Ross Lingard, making a welcome return to Kings after starting a family, is playing as well as ever and bagged Player of the Match, beating all three Five Tees players, including Nick Webb who earned the top spot in his previous match.
Five Tees C 3 - 7 Winnall A morale-boosting first win of the season for promoted Winnall which lifts them up off the bottom of the table. It was a long match of close sets, with every player winning at least one, but it was Winnall’s Colin-Ley Smith who had the best night, earning Player of the Match for winning all three singles, while his team-mates Steve Lawson and Russell Durham won the doubles.
Division 2
Kings B 3 – 7 Five Tees E The first set of the evening is usually between the two number one players when they haven’t had much chance to warm up. Despite some impressive counter-hitting from Kings’ Andy Stevenson he couldn’t get the better of Len Field, the first time they had met, and they will no doubt look forward to the return match later in the season. The long run-back in the gym of Kings School was put to full use by the visiting Tony Gregan’s defensive game, which eventually overcame the persistent attacking shots from Billy Wright.
Swanmore A 3 - 7 Five Tees D With two members of Five Tees D enjoying 100% averages this was never going to be an easy match for the home side who have 66% and 33%. However, never to be deterred, Swanmore put up a valiant effort, and although Kev Muldowney is still not fully fit, he beat both Allan Bransgrove and Graham Lynch, while Swanmore’s Dave Diment and Geoff Pavey did well to take the doubles in five games. Player of the match was again Ricky Hensman.
Kings C 1 - 9 Swanmore B A convincing win, albeit 4 of the 10 sets went to 5 games. Ian Burgess and Steve Coltman both won 3 for Swanmore, while Adrian Hunt won 2 and then chipped in with Ian to win the doubles. Rich Lewis won the sole game for Kings, with Dan Dickinson particularly unlucky, just losing out 12-10 to Ian in the fifth and 14-12 to Steve in the fifth.
