Hampshire pace bowler Chris Wood has been named captain of the Hampshire Hawks for the inaugural Global Super League in Guyana.

The left-arm bowler is Hampshire’s all-time leading T20 wicket-taker, with 191 scalps to his name, and is the fourth-leading wicket-taker in Vitality Blast history.

Club captain James Vince will not take part in the tournament as he is contracted to play for Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition, which runs from November 21 to December 2.

"I had one game of it a few years ago, and I’m really looking forward to getting out in Guyana and captaining the team."

Wood made his T20 debut for the club in 2010 against Kent and has won five white-ball trophies with the club, including all three T20 trophies in 2010, 2012 and 2022.

For his outstanding service to Hampshire Cricket, Wood was awarded a testimonial year for 2024.

He also signed a one-year contract extension earlier in the summer, to remain at the Utilita Bowl until at least the end of 2025.
