A Hampshire cricketer has been awarded an England development contract.

Fast bowler John Turner has been awarded an England development contract for 2024-25 in the latest tranche of men’s central contracts from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The 23-year-old was first awarded a development contract by the ECB last winter and has retained his place after an impressive summer, particularly in the shorter formats.

His 15 wickets were the most for Hampshire Hawks in the 2024 Vitality Blast, and he also claimed five wickets in four matches for Trent Rockets in the men's Hundred competition.

From there, Turner will travel to his native South Africa with England Lions as he is part of a 19-player squad to tour from November 20 to December 14.

Rob Key, managing director of England Men’s Cricket, said: "The strength and depth of talent across England Men’s red and white-ball cricket is clear in the quality of players who are centrally contracted.

"These contracts reward the players we believe will play an important role for our England Men’s teams.
