Winchester Wanderers 1 vs Guildford A 6

Strong early pressure by a lively Guildford side created a succession of short corners which resulted in their first goal after 7 minutes.  Wanderers managed to respond with two short corners in quick succession – both well-saved by the Guildford keeper.  The Guildford quality and pressure began to tell and they scored twice more on either side of the 20-minute mark.  The first came from a short corner, the initial shot well-saved by Wanderers keeper Paul Bolam who could do nothing about the follow-up.  The second from a through ball into the 23m area that found a Guildford player unmarked and able to score. 0-3 at halftime.
The second half continued in much the same vein. Wanderers were largely unable to cope with the speed and skill of the younger opposition. Guildford added another three goals to make it 0-6 with 15 minutes remaining.  Wanderers continued to work hard.  Continuing to play some of their best hockey so far this season. The game became more even in the last 15 minutes. Then, with 5 minutes left to play, Guildford had a 16m hit on their left.  The hit was played across the pitch and was intercepted by Jon Kalb just outside the 23m area. He played it forward to David Haydon at the top of the D.  Haydon collected the ball and drove towards the goal before flicking the ball past the keeper. Some small consolation from another mismatch.
