Winchester 1st XI 5, Sonning 1st XI 1

Winchester's early dominance took a blow when bottom-of-the-table Sonning struck first with a beautifully executed drag flick from a penalty corner. Unnerved, the home team had a string of chances, youngsters Will Leyland and Rory Jack showing fantastic skill and pace to harry Sonning's left defence. The equaliser was set up by defender Matt Kenyon whose diving intervention prevented a Sonning attack and his pass found Jack and Leyland wide right. Their interchange of passes ended with a strike on goal which was parried, but Charlie Harrigan was on hand to force the rebound home. The lead came soon afterwards as Winchester's attackers drew defenders, including the goalkeeper to the danger and Ben Hibberd was able to effectively walk the ball into an open goal. New signing Ben Anthony added to his goal tally as the big centre forward received an aerial ball in the "D" with his back to goal and spun to beat the keeper.

The 3-1 scoreline quickly became 4-1 as Jack and Leyland once again combined brilliantly with close skills to allow Jack to slide it past the Sonning keeper for his sixth of the season. Keeper Seb Eaton was not entirely a spectator, making one flying save to his right and then saving and clearing expertly at a penalty corner. Winchester's final goal was again Anthony's but was made initially by skipper Nick Clark's long aerial out of defence to Leyland on the right who sealed his man-of-the-match performance by providing a perfect pass.

Winchester maintained their 100 per cent record but dropped to second as Fareham edged ahead by virtue of one more goal scored, having an identical goal difference.
