Early Sunday morning saw a windy and drizzly match between the Romsey Town Youth Tigers and the Whiteley Wanderers Youth Warriors in the EDMSL under 10 Red 2 league.
Whiteley were quickly out of the blocks with an almost immediate shot on goal that went wide. This woke up the Tigers, who responded with two corners at the other end, one of which was converted into a goal from Tommy, followed by a shot from Harry that hit the post. The Warriors promptly came back with a shot that was saved by Tigers' goalkeeper George, but the rebound was tucked away into the net. The rest of the first quarter saw lots of action from both sides.
Quarter two was another fast-paced affair, with free kicks and chances at both ends before Teddy scored a top-corner screamer for Romsey with his left foot that the Whiteley keeper managed to get his hands on but ultimately couldn't stop. The rest of the quarter saw a lot of pressure from the Warriors that needed a save by George and some panicked defending.
After half time, it was the Tigers' turn to apply the pressure with Teddy's relentless shots on goal that were testing the goalkeeper, before one found its way into the net after a small deflection.
Quarter four continued in the same vein with Teddy continuing his onslaught and scoring another goal, coming out on top after a one-on-one with the keeper. It wasn't all one way though, with Whiteley drawing another two excellent saves from George.
Parents' Player of the Match was awarded to George for his outstanding saves and positivity, and Managers' Player was given to Harry for his energy and passion on the wing, whilst also being a fantastic teammate.
Also in action were the RTYFC under 10 Pumas, who had a really positive weekend with matches on both Saturday and Sunday.
The first game was in the Junior Premier League on Saturday against long-standing rivals, the Millbrook Lions. The Pumas started very strongly, where lovely passages of play brought chance after chance but they were unable to break the deadlock. Romsey then got hit on the break, but kept their focus and proved great resilience. Goals from Zack, and two from debutant Lincoln, sealed a convincing and strong performance.
Sunday's game in the EDMSL Red 1 league saw the Pumas pitted against newly promoted opposition, the Warsash Wasps. A fast start saw goals from Harvey, Henry and Zack put the opposition under huge pressure. Romsey kept up the momentum with more goals from Blake and Henry, whilst playing football the right way. Lots of good passing, movement and one touch finishing led to a convincing outcome.
The Pumas continue their dominant start to the season and move forward with smiles on their faces and a spring in their step.
