Winchester 1st XI 5  -  Milton Keynes 1st XI  1

Looking to maintain their excellent start to the league season, Winchester easily penetrated the Milton Keynes "D" within the first minute, only for Ben Hibberd's shot to go wide. However, consecutive Winchester penalty corners saw the second with a drag flick from Hibberd netted by Rory Jack off the keeper's pads for an early lead.

Winchester pressure continued although any Milton Keynes attack was easily snuffed out by an excellent Winchester defensive unit. The middle of the first half saw Winchester come close several times, just lacking the finishing touch. It was only shortly before halftime that Milton Keynes won their first penalty corner which was well smothered by the Winchester defence.

Again, within a few minutes of the restart, a drilled ball across the Milton Keynes was deflected in by Rory Jack for his second. A number of piercing runs from Will Leyland caused Milton Keynes all sorts of panicked clearances before defender Matt Kenyon left the pitch for a green card offence. Midway through the second period, a crunching tackle inside the Milton Keynes twenty-three-metre area resulted in a penalty corner for the home team which Ben Hibberd slotted home with an excellent drag flick.

With ten minutes remaining, a poorly executed pass from Winchester's deep midfield gifted a clear run for Milton Keynes who were able to take on keeper Seb Eaton one on one to score their only goal and breathe life into a potential recovery. Winchester responded immediately, winning another penalty corner which was converted by Josh Cotterell's drag flick.

As the final whistle approached, an excellent shot from Rory Jack was parried by the keeper only to be swept in by Josh Cotterell for Winchester's fifth.

The campaign continues next week away to Marlow 2s.
