BTC Southampton   4   Braishfield   1

Braishfield's winning start to the season came to an abrupt halt when they were well beaten by an impressive BTC side last Saturday afternoon.

In a close game, poor defending proved to be Braishfield's downfall as their 100 per cent record was left in tatters. The hosts scored two unanswered goals during the first half and added a third early in the second half. Braishfield then upped their game and after wasting some good chances, they reduced the deficit through Jacob Pircachi, but the hosts put the game beyond reach when they scored a fourth goal.

Meanwhile, in Junior 2 the Reserves were very unfortunate to come away empty handed from a closely contested match against a fancied Pennington side.

Braishfield made a bright start and created some early chances, but against the run of play they fell behind on 15 minutes. This enabled the visitors to take control and a good spell then saw them double their advantage. This was tough on Braishfield, but they responded well and soon pulled one back through Curtis Palmer-Russell and further pressure saw them deservedly draw level when Mitch Down headed home from close range.

The second half was again very close. Pennington looked the more threatening and a well worked move saw them restore their lead on the hour mark. Braishfield did well to remain in the game as they defended well with goalkeeper Jake Hitchcock making some crucial saves. Despite the unfortunate loss of Palmer-Russell due to injury, Braishfield searched hard for a deserved equaliser, but were again out of luck as the visitors held on to claim the points.

Tomorrow afternoon the Reserves are home again when they take on their counterparts from Fordingbridge Turks, whilst the 1st XI travel to Silchester Village in the opening round of the county cup.
