There will be six teams from the Southern League Premier Division South in the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup this season, but whether it is Winchester City or Hungerford Town who will join Walton and Hersham, Chertsey Town, Plymouth Parkway, Taunton Town and the winners of the replay between Gloucester City and Gosport Borough in this stage of the competition will depend on the result of Tuesday's replay as the two teams finished level at 1-1.

Last season the two teams met three times with one win each and one draw and this season the two teams are in adjacent league position with both having six points, although Hungerford has played one more game than Winchester City.

Winchester City were trying to reach the 3rd qualifying round for the 5th time in 11 seasons, while Hungerford were trying to do so for the 6th season in nine.  In addition to Tuesday's replay Winchester also have a scheduled home fixture against Hungerford on October 12, providing whoever wins Tuesday's replay does not also win their 3rd qualifying round tie.

The tie was given added spice by the fact that Hungerford manager Danny Robinson is a former Winchester manager, Hungerford physio Nina Parkin was previously assistant physio at Winchester, while Winchester goalkeeper Luke Cairney used to be in goal for Hungerford.

Winchester made two changes to the starting line-up from Saturday's trip to Chertsey with available again Kieran Douglas and Luka Chalwell replacing Alex Wilkie and Dom Panesar-Dower who were on a seven-man substitutes bench that also included Jordan Rose Ollie Balmer, Simba Mlambo. Harry Nevins and  Sam Ashton.

Early exchanges were quite even with Cairney making saves from Bard Hooper and Ellis Watts, and Hungerford's Joe Shepherd having another chance but shooting over.  At the other end, Tommy Wright had one effort saved by Ryan Clarke in the Hungerford goal and another effort just wide following good work by I K Hill.  Winchester also had other dangerous attacks that were well blocked by the Hungerford defence.

However, in the 37th minute, Hungerford took the lead when Joe Shepherd knocked the ball down and James Harding was first to pick up the loose ball.  A minute later Winchester drew level with Dan Jones scoring a superb goal from 25 yards. His effort seemed initially destined for the centre of the goal, but swerved to Clarke's right, completely wrong-footing the experienced Hungerford goalkeeper who has over 200 football league appearances to his name.  Before half time Luke Cairney made an excellent save from a Joe Shepherd header, but it was all square at the interval.

In the early period of the second half, both teams made substitutions with Winchester Simba Mlambo and Dom Panesar-Dower replacing Luka Chalwell and Dan Jones.  Ryan Clarke had to make a save from Tommy Wright, while at the other end, James Harding almost got a decisive touch following good work by Joe Shepherd.

Midway through the half Winchester bring on Ollie Balmer to replace I.K. Hill and it is Balmer who comes closest to scoring for Winchester during the second period of the second half when he forces a good save from Ryan Clarke. However, although Winchester always looked dangerous, on the break Hungerford exerted a lot of pressure in the latter stages of the contest forcing several corners and Cairney having to make good saves from Ellis Watts and second-half substitutes Zidan Acres and Jacob Bancroft, but there was no further scoring and this FA Cup tie will need a replay.

On Saturday Winchester are away to Tiverton.  The Winchester youth team beat Bournemouth Poppies 5-0
