Bolitho Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Winchester City in the past having lost there on their three visits without scoring a goal, suffering two 1-0 defeats at the hands of Plymouth Parkway and a 3-0 loss to Truro on this ground.

Last season when they drew 1-1 in the away fixture against Plymouth Parkway the match was switched to Plymouth Argyle's Home Park ground.

However Winchester made up for their previous reverses on this ground with a 3-0 victory against Plymouth Parkway with all of the goals coming in the first half an hour of the game. This gave Winchester their first win of the season, moved them above Plymouth Parkway in the table and out of the relegation zone.

Winchester announced an unchanged starting line-up from Sunday's game against Gosport, with Ollie Balmer returning to the 16 as a substitute and Sam Ashton returning from injury on the substitutes bench.

Winchester made a good start to the game with Trevor Caborn setting up Tommy Wright to score in the fifth minute. Two minutes later Wright forced a good save from former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick in the home goal.

Luka Chalwell then tried to put Caborn through, but the ball was intercepted in the nick of time by the home defence. At the other end Tom Dean had an effort that went just wide, but Winchester did score their second in the 19th minute when Tommy Wright regained possession and tried an audacious lob. The ball rebounded off the bar and Luka Chalwell headed home, but there was some doubt as whether the ball had crossed the line before Chalwell's intervention.

Trevor Caborn had two efforts on goal, one of which was a curling shot that went just wide, while the other was saved by McCormick. At the other end Winchester goalkeeper Luke Cairney was bought into action for the first time. However on the half hour Winchester did score the third, with great pressure from Winchester allowing Tommy Wright to slot home and score his second or third depending on who you credit the second goal. Before half time Wright came close again after good work by Dom Panesar-Dower. but his effort was just over. However the important thing from a Winchester perspective was being 3-0 ahead at the interval, leaving the home team a mountain to climb in the game's second period.

In the second half Weight forced a save from McCormick, while a header from a corner from the home team's Matt Wright was just cleared by the Winchester defence. Before the end Tom Dean and Dylan Jones both forced saves from Luke Cairney in the Winchester goal, with the save from Jones being a particularly good one. At the other end Chalwell sets up I K Hill whose shot saved at the expense of a corner.

Winchester made four changes in the second half with Ollie Balmer, Dan Jones, Jordan Rose and Alex Wilkie replacing Tommy Wright, Luka Chalwell, Trevor Caborn and Harry Nevins, but although the Winchester defence had to make some important blocks in addition to the saves Cairney made Winchester were able to hold firm and achieve a much needed 3-0 victory.
After Wednesday's home match against Dorchester which is being played at Basingstoke, Winchester are away to Tavistock in the FA Cup for which the club is running a coach on the Saturday.
