Two second half goals condemned Winchester to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Gosport Borough, the first being an own goal and the second a penalty.

Winchester are now one of five trams with just one point from three games who sit above Swindon Supermarine who sit at the bottom of the table without a point.

Winchester travel to one of the other teams with just 1 point on Saturday when they travel to play Plymouth Parkway.

Gosport who are former FA Trophy finalists and last season finished 4th in the table with the best defensive record in the division, but lost to Salisbury in the playoff semi final. This season despite having many of last season's players they surprisingly lost their first two league games. Their team includes Danny Hollands who has over 350 football league appearances to his name and is a former captain of Eastleigh.

Winchester made four changes to the starting line-up from Wednesday with Danny King who assumed the captaincy. Dom Panesar-Dower, Harry Nevins and Tommy Wright coming in for Alex Wilkie. Jamie Barron, Ollie Griggs and Sam Ashton with Wilkie on a substitutes bench that also included Simba Mlambo, Jordan Rose and Robert Jamison.

Early on Luke Cairney in the Winchester goal made a good save from a header from a Gosport player. At the other end I K Hill had an attempt on goal that was off target, while Trevor Caborn put in a cross that no-one could get a decisive touch to. Danny King and I K Hill also had shots saved, but the last 20 minutes of the goalless first half was fairly uneventful.

Early in the second half Tommy Wright also forced a save from Max Evans in the Gosport goal.  At the other end Gosport were denied by a goal line clearance and the visitors took the lead nine minutes into the second half the visitors took the lead through an own goal, although the goal was credited to Gosport's Charlie Wassmer. Eight minutes later it was 2-0 when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Bradley Tarbuck and captain Rory Williams converted the resulting penalty.

Winchester responded to going two goals down by bringing on Simba Mlambo for Danny King and Alex Wilkie for Harry Nevins and they came close to pulling a goal back when Kieran Douglas headed just wide from a Luka Chalwell corner.

Winchester made their third and final substitution when Jordan Rose replaced Tommy Wright. They had an excellent chance to pull a goal back when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Rose, but Evans made an excellent save from Luka Chalwell's spot kick and although Winchester scored from the follow up the goal was disallowed for offside as Winchester go down to a 2-0 defeat.
