OT'S & Romsey welcomed Waterlooville to the Bypass Ground for a Southern Premier League Division 1 clash.
OT'S skipper Rob Newman won the toss and opted to bat first.
OT'S recent poor form with the bat continued when they found themselves 46 for 5 with Joe Vaughan, Charlie King, Hugo Smith, Harry Tulk and Alex Bampton all back in the pavillion. Waterlooville bowlers Ashan Silva and Joseph Mitchell doing the damage.
When Elliot Ponting retired hurt with a back spasm then OT's were effectively 48 for 6. Skipper Rob Newman and Rhys Wathen batted watchfully and we're content to pick up mainly singles as they looked to rebuild. The pair accelerated as they looked to post a competitive total and having brought up a century stand they looked to more expansive as they counter attacked with Rob Newman in particular employing a variety of sweep shots as he took his score past the fifty mark. Newman was eventually dismissed by Silva for 79 from 103 balls with 8 fours with the score on 185 with only 3 balls of the innings remaining. Rhys Wathen was run out two balls later for 39 from 93 balls with 3 fours. The pair had ensured OT's posted a decent total of 186 for 7 from their 50 overs.
The Waterlooville innings also started poorly when Jordan Ponting removed both Waterlooville openers Archie Reynolds and Josh McGregor with only 23 runs on the board. OT's continued to make inroads and picked up wickets at regular intervals but a good innings by Dan Birch swung the pendulum back towards Waterlooville. A 41 run partnership between Harry McBride and Birch was ended by Harry Tulk with Waterlooville now 123 for 5. A double strike from leg spinner Joe Vaughan including the wicket of Birch for 61 from 81 balls with 7 fours and a six reduced Waterlooville to 127 for 7. The eighth wicket fell at 159 when Haydn Knight was run out and Newman picked up the 9th wicket eight runs later as Hugo Smith held a catch at long off to dismiss Joseph Mitchell for 21. With 17 needed off 14 balls last man Charley Croft was run out by another smart bit of fielding by Tulk and OT's were the victors by 16 runs. There were two wickets a piece for Jordan Ponting, Joe Vaughan and Rob Newman.
Next up for OT'S is an away visit to local rivals Calmore which gets underway at 12.30pm on August 10.
