Following their performances at the English Schools Championships, three young Winchester athletes were rewarded with England Schools vests and represented their nation at the Schools Home International match that took place in Wales on Saturday July 20.
The match sees the best athletes from across England v Scotland v Ireland v Wales competing in the U17 age group.
Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) won the 300m hurdles for England in a new pb and training partner Jess Howells (coach Andy Fisher) followed this up with 2nd place in the javelin just behind teammate Harriet Court making it a 1-2 for England on the podium. Gracie Osman (coach Andy Fisher) who also trains in the same group came 3rd in the long jump with her 2nd furthest jump ever therefore also making the podium.
This represents a huge achievement for Winchester and District Athletics Club and reflects the great strength in depth that is coming up through the club. Congratulations also to Andy Fisher (coach to all three athletes) on helping to support yet another group of talented young athletes through to International level. All at Winchester and District Athletics club are very proud of Lucia, Jess and Gracie and look forward to seeing their athletics careers develop in future years.
