Easton and Martyr Worthy Cricket Club’s annual Sixes tournament, sponsored by Knight Frank, was held on Friday July 26.

The David Roth cricket ground looked magnificent in the sunshine and showcased village cricket at its best. The colourful playing shirts ensured the eight teams could be easily identified and the event was well attended by supporters and spectators.

The bar was provided jointly by The Plough, Itchen Abbas and The Cricketers Inn, Easton. Paul Moffatt’s hog roast was enjoyed by all.

The teams competing were all sponsored by local businesses. New teams this year included Coopah Run Coach, a running coaching app which provides personalised training plans for runners of all abilities, Client Server Titans (IT recruitment) and Dr Vegan.

The first semi-final was between Fenwick Elliot (solicitors) in yellow and Anglesea Capital (asset management and real estate investment) in blue. Fenwick Elliot won by 19 runs. The second was between Dr Vegan in turquoise and The Winchester Hotel in purple. Dr Vegan was victorious by 33 runs.

The final was closely fought. Fenwick Elliot won the toss and elected to bat. Gaz Shreuder retired on 23 runs and the innings closed on 71 for 3. Dr Vegan needed 6 off the final ball, but only managed to run a single.

The Sixes Cup was presented by club chairman Adrian Lee. Team captain Monty Randle paid tribute to his team mates and was thrilled to be back on the winners’ podium after an absence of a few years.

At lunch players and spectators were very pleased to be joined by club president John Roth, now aged 103 and the oldest and longest standing member of the MCC, with his wife Daphne, now a mere 99 years old, who had travelled from London.
