St Cross Symondians couldn't have done much more to win their ultimately rain abandoned ECB Southern Premier League match at South Wilts.
They had 208 runs on the scoreboard board by lunch. They raced on to a thumping 323-5 and then reduced South Wilts to 48-5. Cue a washout.
Despite lying fifth in the log with only three wins from ten matches, St Cross aren't prepared to give the ghost on closing the 38-point lead Bashley (Rydal) enjoy going into Saturday's final round of all-day time pennant matches.
"We've got to be positive and try and win every remaining match - and we certainly achieved that without getting our just deserts against South Wilts," said returning skipper Ed Ellis.
Gregor McKenzie led an amazing run spree - ten fours, another six shots that cleared the rope, in all 76 of his 95 runs coming in boundaries.
Hampshire's Felix Organ, who made 66 of an opening stand of 162, was often a non-striking spectator as McKenzie's clean hits scorched the Bemerton outfield.
St Cross were 208-2 off 34 overs at lunch and, after Ellis weighed in with 65 not out alongside contributions from Wilf La Fontaine Jackson (30) and Charlie Gwynn (29), the visitors were able to declare at 323-5.
"We needed to get in as many overs as we could, knowing that 25 constituted a game, but with rain looking large on the radar prospects weren't that optimistic," Ellis explained.
In the 18 overs they were able to bowl, St Cross created mayhem - South African Kyle Pluke, working up pace, taking 4-10 before the rains came and South Wilts, at 48-5, escaped. As 25 overs hadn't been bowled in the second innings, the match was declared a no result.
St Cross are through to the Premier League T20 Cup semi-finals after a five-wicket win over Hook & Newnham Basics, whom they bowled out for 90 at the KGV, spinner Callum Willock taking 4-7.
La Fontaine Jackson hit 37 not out as St Cross cruised towards a semi-final visit to Totton & Eling on Sunday August 18.
Harry Trussler hit 100 as St Cross Symondians II posted 210-7 before their SPL2 match against visiting New Milton was abandoned. He hit two sixes and ten fours.
