OT'S & Romsey played two matches at the weekend.
On Saturday they travelled to Sarisbury in the Southern Premier League Division 1.
Sarisbury opted to bat first and Ed Davies made the initial breakthrough when he had Kaiden Cookson caught by wicketkeeper Tom George for 17.
The same combination accounted for Jack Robson for 2. Joe Vaughan's leg spin clean bowled Ricky Rawlins for 5 and Nathan Feltham soon followed. At 65 for 4 Sarisbury were indebted to the experienced Tom Morton and Joshua Williams who took the score to 110 before Morton fell to Davies for 51 from 81 balls. Davies picked up his fourth wicket when Josh Hill was caught by Charlie King for 3. The tailenders helped push the final total to 166 for 9. Ed Davies was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 36 runs. There were two wickets each for Vaughan and Peruzi.
OT's still missing Chris Wood, Graham Noble and Lewis Allen knew the chase would not be straightforward under grey skies. Joe Vaughan looked to play shots to get the score ahead of the required run rate, but he was first to go for 27 with the score on 41. The first wicket was a prelude to a clatter of wickets as King, Peruzi and Newman soon followed and OT'S were reduced to 45 for 4.
When Elliot Ponting became Archie Pascoe's fourth victim with the score on 56 then Sarisbury were firm favourites. Alex Bampton fell LBW to Rob Franklin with the score on 63. OT'S were still in with a chance with the in form Harry Tulk and Alex Mills at the crease. Unfortunately though the heavens opened and a torrential downpour meant the game was abandoned and OT's lost by 46 runs under the Duckworth Lewis scoring method.
OT'S second game of the weekend saw the visit of a strong looking Premier League Alton side to the Bypass Ground for a T20 match. OT'S skipper Rob Newman chose to bat first but OT's were soon 27 for 2 from 7 overs with Tulk and King back in the pavillion. A game changing 92 run partnership between Vaughan and Mills in only 8 overs put OT's back on the front foot. Joe Vaughan made 59 with 5 fours and 3 sixes and Alex Mills made 44 with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Peruzi hit a useful 16 in a challenging total of 162 for 6 from 20 overs. Dan Sumner was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 18 runs from his 4 overs.
The loss of regular wickets in the Alton reply meant that they were always well behind the required run rate, Sam Ruffell top scored for Alton with 42. Alton fell 40 runs short of their target at 122 for 9. The wickets were shared between all the OT'S bowlers. With Bampton and Wathen each picking up two wickets.
This weekend sees a double header at the Bypass Ground with Hook and Newnham the visitors on Saturday and Gosport Borough the next opponents for OT's on Sunday in the T20 quarter final. The action gets underway at 12.30pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Come along and support your local team.
