ROMSEY Fencing Club came away with three bronze medals in last weekend’s Southern Region Senior Fencing Championships which took place in Maidenhead and included entrants from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Katie Baker, 15, did well in a senior event to win a bronze medal at Women’s Epee, as well as sharing the bronze medal position at Women’s Foil with fellow club member Dawn Townsend.
Club coach Jim Philbin said: “These two fencers have very different styles. Dawn, as a veteran, is able to use her extensive experience to overcome many younger and faster opponents, while Katie, as a cadet fencer, relies more on her competitive instincts and her drive to win. Both fencers performed very well and it’s great to see Romsey making its mark at a senior regional event.”
