Weeke Primary School added another feather to its cap on May 9 as their Year 5 and 6 girls' football team clinched the prestigious Hampshire Plate with a resounding 9-1 victory over Emsworth Primary.

No penalties were needed this time though as the girls produced a dominant performance and claim the Hampshire Plate for the first time in the school's history.

In very hot conditions, the team got off to a fast start, scoring within the first two minutes of the match. More goals quickly followed and Weeke were 4-0 up after seven minutes.

Emsworth pulled one goal back, but it was a rare attack and Weeke were never in any real danger. The goals continued to come for Weeke and we steadily pulled away, finishing with nine goals. Ayla and Alice both scored hat-tricks, Lorna scored two and Emily scored with a powerful finish.

This triumph, however, is not an isolated event but a crowning jewel in Weeke Primary's illustrious football history this year. The Year 5 and 6 boys' and girls' teams have collectively bagged three trophies, marking an extraordinary season of success and celebration for the school.

"We are extremely proud of this special treble achievement," said Jonathan Kirkham, headteacher of Weeke Primary School. "It is a testament to the commitment and enjoyment the children have in all areas of school life, and football is no exception. Their hard work, resilience, and passion for the sport have truly paid off."

Special thanks are extended to Mr Ewins, Mr Bunch and Mr Weatherall for their drive and unwavering support in nurturing the talents of our young athletes.

As the celebrations continue at Weeke Primary School, the triumphant athletes bask in the glory of their achievements, knowing that their journey on the football field has not only brought them victories but also invaluable lessons in camaraderie, discipline, and determination. With their eyes set on future challenges and triumphs, they stand as shining examples of the indomitable spirit of sportsmanship and success.
