Millbrook u14 0 - 3 Romsey Town Youth u14 Panthers

Among more postponed games due to waterlogged pitches, the Romsey Town under 14 Panthers went into their Tyro Division 1 weekend game against Millbrook full of confidence from five straight wins in league and cups, although having finished runners up in last year's league and being finalists in the Hampshire Cup, Millbrook were sure to be a stern test.

Romsey started well, keeping the ball and controlling the game. A number of half chances came and went with Louie Barelli coming closest at the far post after a terrific cross from Euan Karnecki.

Despite having the best of the play, the breakthrough didn’t come and the half time score was 0-0.

The Panthers started slowly in the second half and had to withstand significant pressure for the first 15 minutes, before working their way back into the game and re-establishing some control. With 20 minutes to go, Romsey took the lead when Euan beat two defenders before having his shot well saved, only to follow it up and slide the rebound under the keeper.

More pressure came on the Romsey goal as Millbrook pushed for an equaliser, with Roman Chappell pulling off an amazing save, diving low to his right to keep out a shot heading for the far corner.

With 10 minutes to go, the Panthers made it two after a wonderful cross-field ball from Owen Martin found Louie Barelli, who controlled it and smashed it past the advancing keeper. The second goal really settled Romsey who controlled the final stages of the game, moving the ball quickly and playing some of their best football of the day.

In the final minute, more great work from Euan saw him beat the final defender only to be pulled down in the box. Joshua Dunster stepped forward to convert the resulting penalty, but there was further drama when the referee ordered the kick to be retaken for player encroachment. Joshua remained calm and slotted the ball into the same corner to seal the game.

The final whistle sparked great celebrations as the winning run extends to six and Romsey move to third in the table ahead of next week's Hampshire Cup game against the defending champions.
