Winchester and District Athletics Club (WADAC) is celebrating another record-breaking season for its track and field teams – the most successful in the club's history.
The club has won four league titles this season and secured promotion to the top divisions in the South of England for both junior and senior teams.
The senior team has recently been confirmed as winners of the Southern Athletics League South and West division and secured promotion to Division 1 next season. This is the highest level that Winchester has competed at and means that our local athletes will be competing against the top teams in the South of England next season.
The future of athletics in Winchester also looks bright and is evidenced by the fantastic success of the younger age groups who also secured league wins. In the Youth Development League (YDL) lower age group (for U13 and U15 athletes) Winchester completed a clean sweep of all four league matches this season. The team won the Southern Division 1A and secured promotion to the Southern Premier League next season.
In addition the older age group athletes competing in the YDL Upper Age group competition (for U17 and U20 competitors) also secured a league win along with our composite team partners Portsmouth. This also means the upper age group team will be promoted to the Southern Premier league next season ensuring that all three league teams will be competing at the highest level in the south.
Not to be outdone the Winchester Veterans (for ages 35+) also performed admirably this season with the ladies winning the Hampshire Vets League and men also finishing strongly in their competition.
Winchester is a welcoming and inclusive club and we are always keen to engage with those interested in getting involved in the sport – either as athletes (all levels), coaches, officials or supporters.
If you would like to get involved then please get in touch through the Winchester and District Athletics club website at WADAC.org.uk.
Winchester is holding a season close meeting at the Winchester stadium on Sunday September 24 (located at Bar End behind the leisure centre).
If you’d like to learn more about the club please do come along and see some top quality athletics at first hand.
