JUNE 24 and 25 saw the most prestigious competition of the year, the Wellow Annual Club Championship, with eighteen junior members taking part.
The Junior Section’s continuing growth was reflected in the fact that this was the highest number of junior entrants the competition has ever seen.
The age range was from 7 years old (a record youngest-ever entrant) to 17 years, including four of the growing number of girls in the section. The stakes were high, with 10 monetary prizes across gross and nett scores for both days, along with much-coveted trophies.

The sun was blazing, with this resulting in difficult conditions (described by one adult as ‘brutal’) but the juniors persevered and all completed their 36 holes across the two days. The standard of play was high with many of the junior scores beating those of some adult players from other sections.
As always the supporters were many with parents, grandparents and family out in force as caddies and spectators and, together with members of other sections, staying until 7.30pm on Sunday for a packed clubhouse and the all-important results.
The club was pleased to celebrate its young players and their families, with Farren Porter being crowned the junior champion of 2023.
