The Men's and Ladies Championship competitions were held at Dunwood Manor Golf Club last weekend.
At 8am on Saturday (June 30) the first of 57 men competing to become the Club Champion, set off in a light drizzle on the first of 36 holes of golf. The rain got heavier during the day but the course held up well, helped by some judicious use of a squeegee on one or two of the greens.
At the end of the day, skill prevailed and Robert Clothier was hailed as the Men's Champion with excellent rounds of 67 & 73. The Net competition was won by Josh Whiffen.
On the Sunday morning 21 ladies set off on their marathon 36 holes. The weather was not good in the morning but improved in the afternoon from which emerged Dee Wood as the new Lady Champion. Dee, a grandmother beat the more fancied young players in the field with very creditable rounds of 79 & 83.
The net champion was young Louise Mabley while the winner of the 18-hole competition was Brenda Moody.
