ECB Southern Electric Premier League - Division 3.
OTs & Romsey (301-7) lost to Sparsholt (302-5).
Old Tauntonians & Romsey piled up a massive 301 for 7 at Sparsholt - only to see their unblemished Southern Electric Premier League, Division 3 record shattered in a remarkable evening run chase.
When Charles Forward, Stu Shapland, Keith Trodd and Nick DeStefano all notched half-centuries, second placed OTR were sitting pretty at tea.
But OTs' confidence began to ebb away when Tom Viljoen and Mark Cansdale (37) provided Sparsholt with an 89-run launch pad.
It was Viljoen's third-wicket stand of 156 with skipper Andy Heyes, which really fuelled Sparsholt's run chase.
Viljoen eventually fell to Shapland (2-76), but none of the young OTR bowler was able to prevent Hayes scoring a match winning 113 not out.
OTs & Romsey 2nd XI.
A long day in the field for Romsey saw Ryde post a strong total of 228 for 5, with the pick of the OTR's bowling being Iqbal (1-48) and Mall (3-61).
After losing early wickets, it was left for Iqbal (53) and Flack (33) to steady the ship. However OTR were too far behind the required runs and were all out 49 runs short of the total.
OTs & Romsey 3rd XI.
After getting stuck in traffic on Saturday morning, OTR III started late in their away game at Dinton.
Winning the toss and electing to field, OTR bowled tightly without much reward for the first 15 overs but the introduction of Liam Smith (5-41) into the bowling attack started turning that pressure into wickets. Assistance was provided by Stuart Wood (2-23) and Peter Cox (3-40) to clean up the tail. Dinton's total of 218 owed much to the achievement of Andy O'Neill whose 109 was over four times the next highest scorer.
OTR's reply started badly, losing their first four wickets with only 18 runs scored. The opening bowling partnership of Cox (44) and Richard Burdett (23) showed their all-rounder capabilities and started to score runs, but the introduction of O'Neill into the bowling attack cleared up the pair and the tail crumbled with OTR finishing on 137 all out.
OTs & Romsey 4th XI.
OTR's won the toss and elected to field against top of the table Winterslow. Some tight bowling from the young OTR side (in particular Colin Taylor) restricted Winterslow to 89 for 0 at the half way stage.
Unfortunately for OTR, with wickets in hand, Winterslow started to free up their shots and showed their class, ending up with 269 from 42 overs.
The run rate of over six was always going to be a struggle for this young side, with only Rob Peters and Jim Stewart (23) putting up any resistance to the pace attack which included the ex-professional Steddon.
Winterslow ran out easy winners and will be odds-on favourites to gain promotion from the tough Regional Division 4 (North West).
OTs & Romsey have a match in the 2nd round of the Twenty20 Southern Electric Cup on Thursday (June 14, 6.15pm start). Having beaten Lymington by ten wickets in the previous round, OTR are taking on South Wilts at Romsey Sports Centre.
