Winchester & District Sunday League Premier Division
FC Central 1 Whitenap 8
A fantastic performance saw Whitenap demolish FC Central at the Wellington Sports Ground.
Having narrowly beaten their opponents earlier in the season, Whitenap expected a tough test and took the game to Central from the first whistle.
And the host’s defence could not handle Whitenap’s pace and flowing football.
It was not long before Adam Sherman scored the first, latching on to Ian David’s pass to fire past the keeper.
Sherman followed this up by tapping home a Scott Ferguson cross, before rounding off a perfect hat-trick with a header from Pete Beeching’s free kick.
Dan Hansford scored the next, cutting in from the left and firing into the bottom corner.
Central had the odd break away and a well taken solo saw them pull one back, the only blip on an otherwise faultless display by goalkeeper Pete Robinson and the defence of Jim Atterbury, Ben Meehan, Paul Lodge and Dan Hood.
Whitenap restored their four-goal cushion when Scott Ferguson hit a thunderbolt past the keeper from the edge of the box. The theme of the half-time team talk was not letting Central back into the game.
For once, the Whitenap players showed they took this onboard when Ian David ran through to place the ball past the keeper. Hansford the scored a cute back heal after Ferguson’s effort was saved and Rob Peters rounded off the scoring when he diverted Joe Benham’s shot into the back of the net. This Sunday morning Whitenap are home at Hunts Farm versus Worthies Sports in the League Cup.
