Romsey Golf Club’s ladies’ team were crowned Stoneham Cup champions in the event’s centenary year.
The latest edition of the tournament saw a repeat of the 2013 final as Romsey faced Waterlooville.
Twelve months ago it was Waterlooville who prevailed, winning the trophy for the first time in their history.
This time, however, the tables were turned, as Romsey ended a 61-year wait to claim the prize, with a 5.5-1.5 victory.
Finals day at Stoneham began with two tense battles to decide who would reach the showpiece match.
Waterlooville booked their place with a 4-3 success against Lee-on-the-Solent, while Romsey triumphed 4.5-2.5 against Weybrook Park.
The final then proved to be a one-sided affair, as Jan Crook put the first point on the board with a 6&5 win against Carol Younghusband.
Sara Barnes sealed her match, 5&3, over Helen Pinhorn just minutes later, before Julie Cole earned a 2&1 win against Kerry Smith.
When Geraldine Pringle bagged a 6&4 victory in her contest with Gill Millett, Romsey had an unassailable lead, and the last three games – featuring the remaining Romsey trio of Tilly Pletts, Sam Powell and Carole Wakeford – were declared halves.
The result capped a fine month for Romsey Golf Club, who saw a ten-man team win the Kindred Clubs regional foursomes title for a third consecutive year and their junior squad advance to this month’s national finals.
