PAST and present players gathered to celebrate Winchester City Football Club’s one year birthday since it was taken over by new management.
Club chairman, Paul Murray, and football director, David Malone, invited the mayor and mayoress of Winchester, Cllr Ernie and Barbara Jeffs, to cut the cake and celebrate with both current and players of times gone by.
Mr Murray and Mr Malone took over the club a year ago, forming a new committee to stop the club from folding, and have spent £12,000 to improve facilities over the last 12 months.
Jane Carley, commercial manager, said: “The visit from the mayor really boosted everyone on Saturday and everybody started to get a feel that Winchester is on its way back up again.
“It was a truly brilliant afternoon and the atmosphere was great. We’d like to say a special thank you to the mayor for coming to visit which made our 4-0 win even more special.”
