A HAMPSHIRE village school's head teacher is retiring early to pursue a different kind of public service.
Richard Coleman, 56, has run South Wonston Primary School north of Winchester for nearly 19 years but is quitting so he can contest the Wonston and Micheldever seat in city council elections next May.
Mr Coleman held his last assembly at the 325-pupil school in December, with youngsters raising £500 for Naomi House children's hospice to mark the occasion.
