Winchester firefighters rescued a horse after it had been trapped within its box yesterday (AUG 9).
The horse became stuck when it was spooked and tried to jump over a partition in the motorised horsebox, driving along the B335 Twyford .
The owner pulled over after hearing a noise and then discovered the three-year-old cob was trapped.
Appliances from Winchester, Eastleigh attended at around 5pm while an animal rescue team from Lyndhurst was also on the scene.
Vet David Languish from Animed heavily sedated the horse before crews cut the partition away.
Jim green, animal rescue specialist, said: “This was a very dangerous scene where the horse did not have much room to manoeuvre and was becoming distressed. Its legs were balanced on the edge of the box, and if it had stepped back any further it would have fallen, becoming further distressed and potentially causing further injury.
“This incident further reinforces Hampshire’s successful rescue initiative which involves training vets and firefighters to work seamlessly to resolve incidents involving large animals. We are very grateful to the vet, David Languish, for his prompt attendance and action on the night.”
