A POPULAR pharmacist near Winchester has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.
Eric Norgbey, who runs Springvale Pharmacy in Kings Worthy, is one of five finalists in The Countryside Alliance's Rural Heroes contest.
The competition recognises the characters that work hard to make communities tick.
Jill Grieve, awards director, said: "Eric and his wife have, through their pharmacy, brought a breath of fresh air to the community and this has inspired many of the residents.
"Eric deserves to be recognised and all residents in Kings Worthy are behind his bid.
"He is proof that being kind and considerate is noticed and appreciated, and that nice guys don't have to finish last."
Mr Norgbey, who last year campaigned against plans by Tesco to open a pharmacy at its Winnall superstore, said: "I'm very highly elated, it's for the community, they have made this possible. I think the community recognises the importance of the pharmacy and their support has made it what it is."
The winner will be announced next Wednesday (February 3).
