HAMPSHIRE revellers returning from London were stranded for nearly an hour in Basingstoke this morning.
A power failure caused the last Southampton-bound train to breakdown around 2am.
South West Trains decided to abandon the train and transport passengers by road shortly before 3am.
The 33 passengers onboard – the majority of whom were heading to Southampton or Winchester – were taken to their doorsteps by six taxis. It is likely to be an expensive move with each round-trip from Basingstoke costing between £100-£150.
A de-icing train had earlier broken down between Basingstoke and Winchester, which is believed to have caused the power problems.
