HISTORIANS can’t get no satisfaction in their bid to record details of a Winchester gig by a then burgeoning rock band.

Hyde 900’s living history group is urging those at a Rolling Stones concert in Worthy Lane in December 1963 to come forward.

The group, which is this year holding events to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the burial of King Alfred in Hyde, wants to hear from those at the gig.

As part of the celebrations Hyde 900 has been interviewing residents to capture their memories of the Winchester suburb. Madelaine Key, who is co-ordinating the project, said nearly everyone had mentioned the concert but did not know any further details.

“It adds such a wonderful flavour to the locality,” said Mrs Key. “We don’t think of anything terribly exciting happening in Winchester. But it did catch people’s imaginations and they are still talking about it nearly 50 years on.”
