COUNCIL chiefs are poised to douse the district in yellow paint as they seek to tighten parking controls.
Single yellow lines will be coming to some streets, while some existing ones will be upgraded to double lines.
The proposals are mainly geared to make it easier for residents to park in streets where they currently struggle to find spaces.
It includes a parking bay halfway along Parchment Street, which will be switched from short-term parking for shoppers to residents only.
It comes after another bay in the street, which was closer to most of the stores, was taken from residents and given to visitors.
Single yellow lines are also looming for Kerrfield, a cul-de-sac near the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
Some sections of single yellows in Highcliffe Road, Cathedral View and St Catherine's Road in Highcliffe are also set to become double yellows to improve traffic flow.
Also in Highcliffe, Dell Road residents will be given around half a dozen extra spaces, reducing the amount of unrestricted parking.
Council chiefs also intend to mark out several new disabled bays in Market Street beside the Wessex Hotel in Winchester.
Tighter controls in Winnall Manor Road and Winnall Valley Road at Winnall that were created on a trial basis in 2008 also look set to be confirmed.
Later this month the proposals will come before Winchester City Council's cabinet member for transport, Cllr Keith Wood, who has the final say.
