WINCHESTER schools were again disrupted by the snow, just as they were getting back to normal.

Henry Beaufort School in Harestock was closed for all year groups today because “of snow on the site.”

In Winchester, Kings’ School was only open for pupils in years nine, 10 and 11 and The Westgate School for years 10 and 11.

Perins in Alresford opened but closed at 2pm, with only around a quarter of pupils attending. No buses were able to get through in the morning from the Four Marks area.

One parent, who asked not to be named, said: “It seems daft to open at all.”

A school spokeswoman said: “it is because we are con cerned aboyut children’s safety, we are giving them more time to get home.

“We opened because we had lost so much time last week. The teachers wanted to catch up.”

Across Hampshire more than one hundred schools were again closed following heavy snowfall overnight.

Out of 536 primary and secondary schools run by the county, about a quarter (143 ) were shut although most secondary schools were open for exam pupils.

Dozens of primary schools closed including St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Oliver’s Battery, Micheldever and Ropley village schools.

Among those to remain open were Oliver’s Battery, Colden Common, Hamble, Locks Heath Infant School and Western primary schools.

Although the snowfall is not as heavy as last week, it has caused more misery for motorists who struggled to work.

Hampshire County Council said on Tuesday it was down to its last 1,500 tonnes of salt but a new delivery of 500 tonnes arrived late yesterday with a further 500 tonnes expected this week.
