A BURGLAR from Winchester has been jailed for 44 weeks after breaching a suspended sentence.

Father-of-one Ian Hutchinson failed to turn up for several drug rehabilitation classes and supervision requirements, following his conviction for breaking into a house in Clifton Road, Oram’s Arbour, on June 1.

Winchester Crown Court also heard how Hutchinson, of no fixed abode, stole perfume worth £100 from Debenhams in the city centre on Christmas Eve.

Hutchinson, 30, a heroin user, had several previous convictions including burglary, theft and driving whilst disqualified, the court heard.

Last September he had thanked Judge Andrew Barnett for sparing him a jail sentence and being given one last chance following his latest conviction for burglary.

Judge Barnett said: “You have an appalling record.

“Once again it seems you just have not learnt your lesson.

“There’s no alternative but for me to send you to prison.”

Hutchinson was sentenced to 36 weeks for his previous burglary, and pleaded guilty to the theft from Debenhams for which he received an additional eight weeks.

In 2007 Hutchinson received a two-year sentence for burgling a home in Dawn Gardens, Sleeper’s Hill, before stealing the owner’s high-powered BMW.

He then led police on a car chase through Winchester city centre, which ended when he lost control of the car and crashed into a bollard outside the Savannah bar in Jewry Street.
