WINCHESTER is slowly getting back to normal this morning but a covering of snow and ice still remains.
With no fresh snowfalls overnight access to the city centre has improved with the high street now clear of the treacherous ice that plagued shoppers yesterday.
But pavements in the city’s suburbs remain dangerous. It was so bad in St Cross Road this morning dozens of pedestrians were seen walking in the road.
Some schools in the district remain closed – see below – but many, such as Henry Beaufort and Kings’, have opened partially for GCSE students.
The following remained closed: All Saints, Winchester; Ampfield; Barton Stacey; Bishop’s Waltham (both); Cheriton; Crestwood College, Eastleigh; Denmead (both); Droxford; East Meon; Fair Oak, Eastleigh (both); Four Marks Primary.
Fryern, Chandler’s Ford (both); Harestock; Itchen Abbas; Kings Copse, Hedge End; Kings Worthy; Nightingale, Eastleigh; Norwood, Eastleigh; Osborne Special School, Winchester.
Perins, Alresford; Peter Symonds College, Winchester; Shepherds Down Special School, Compton; South Wonston; Sparsholt College; St John The Baptist, Waltham Chase; St Swithun’s, Winchester; Sun Hill Junior, Alresford; Swanmore College of Technology; Winnall, Winchester; Wyvern Technology College, Eastleigh.
