FOR more than 30 years the centre of Winchester has had plans for major redevelopment.
Best known as Silver Hill, it is currently termed the Central Winchester Regeneration.
This photo shows the name it briefly had when the Conservatives were in control of the city council, before the Liberal Democrats took over in 2019.
'Saxongate' was the name chosen by the Tories after the previous Silver Hill scheme collapsed.
Presumably some marketing expert told them 'Silver Hill' was a tainted 'brand'.
The Lib Dems chose to ignore the new name.
So Saxongate was emblazoned on the hoardings that surrounded the empty Frarsgate GP surgery.
Now the surgery is being demolished for a 'meanwhile' use as a public open space.
Once the surgery is knocked down the hoardings will also be in line for removal
