A NEW co-ordinator is being sought to organise volunteers at Romsey’s award-winning King John’s Garden.
Chairman of the Friends of King John’s Garden, Diane Hargreaves, said she was looking for someone with time on their hands and who was a keen and experienced gardener.
She paid tribute to Ann Burn, who has retired from the co-ordinator’s role after many years due to ill health.
Diane said: “Ann has done a splendid job. Each week, she has organised the gardening jobs and, when required, she has sourced and bought the plants, bulbs and garden sundries in consultation with the other gardeners.
“The team will miss her firm but quiet leadership but we realise that we must not impose on her generosity any longer.”
Test Valley Borough Council owns King John’s Garden, which is next to the centuries-old house bearing the same name. Volunteer gardeners meet fortnightly on Thursday mornings in the winter and weekly during the summer.
Diane said the co-ordinator’s job was a rewarding one as the garden was admired and enjoyed by so many people.
“We would also welcome additional gardeners as some of us are developing age-related joint problems and are less fit than we used to be,” she added.
Anyone who would like to be considered for the co-ordinator’s role can contact Diane on 01794 512315.
