A HEDGE END mum has presented a huge cheque to the children’s ward whose staff gave her five-year-old son new hope in his battle against cancer.
Max Adams was diagnosed a year ago with two rare forms of cancer, which led to him losing a lung. He’s gone through chemotherapy and his latest test has come up clear.
As a big thank you, his mother, Kerry, has given £22,500 to the Piam Brown ward at Southampton General Hospital after raising the money with a charity golf day and a dinner-dance.
Her partner, Rich Little, 46, helped her organise the golf event at Paultons Park while her boss at Morris Dibben, Southampton, Simon Edser, together with Karen Niven, the manager of Bon Voyage Travel, where she had previously worked for 16 years, assisted her with the dinner- dance.
“I’m amazed by the amount we have raised and delighted to give the money to the ward where it can be spent on equipment or trips for the children.
They are all out of this world,” she said.
Max has now started going back to Wellstead Primary School, in Hedge End, with his seven-yearold brother, Lewis.
“When we were first told the diagnosis, it was like being hit with a hammer,” Kerry said.
“It is still really scary but I am hoping and praying that it will not come back.”
Max will be going for scans every four months to monitor his progress while Kerry is continuing with her fund-raising for the children’s ward, hoping to reach the £25,000 mark.
