A HOSTELRY near Winchester is celebrating after winning a pub of the year award.
The Chestnut Horse in Easton beat off competition from more than 200 Hall and Woodhouse pubs to scoop the gong.
Landlady Karen Wells has managed the pub for nearly decade but only took on the lease herself in 2005, aged just 25.
“Winning the pub of the year award was the proudest point in my career so far,” said Miss Wells. “The team at The Chestnut Horse are loyal, committed and very hard-working. Each and every member of staff I have deserves to be recognised for this achievement.”
Paul Bunting, announcing the award, said: “The retail offer has been adapted to deal with the changing economic climate and they have found innovative ways to market their business without compromising on quality.
“It is a pub where as a customer you feel equally welcome and cared for whether you stop off for a pint or are staying for a three-course meal.”
