HIGH drama unfolded just outside Winchester as construction company, Morgan Ashurst, joined forces with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to carry out a simulated rescue from a huge tower crane. The action took place at the Morn Hill site where the company is building a 141-bedroom Holiday Inn hotel.

Trained crew from Winchester Fire Station’s Green Watch scaled the crane to simulate a rescue from the cab.

This is the type of rescue procedure that would be performed should the driver suffer a heart attack or collapse.

Senior site manager, Dean Lindeque, volunteered to take the role of the driver to be lowered from the cab, some 100ft above the site.

“The safety of our team is extremely important to us and it was great to work with the fire and rescue service to see how the professionals would come to our aid in an emergency,” he said.
