SIR — Mr Story is incorrect in saying that the proposals for Bushfield include building on the downland shown in the photograph (Chronicle letters, May 28).
In fact, this downland area will be preserved in perpetuity as part of the scheme.
The development of a ‘knowledge park’ on the former barracks site will provide high-end jobs for local people, much-needed to reduce the large number of people forced to commute out of Winchester.
This would also transform what is a local eyesore. I am not sure that anyone would wish to preserve the views of burnt out cars and derelict buildings.
