SIR — I would like to clarify the Bushfield Campaign Group’s position.
You are correct in reporting that I did say that the ‘knowledge park’ on the camp would be “the least worst option,” but that does not mean that we back the proposal.
As a group we are awaiting a response to our application for Village Green status for the camp and the down.
As a village green the entire area would be protected to provide the green space that will be vital for the health of our children and grandchildren.
The area is used for recreation by the people from four localities: St Cross; Stanmore; Badger Farm; and Oliver’s Battery.
We are delighted that the Church Commissioners are willing to move some way towards the proposal of the local community.
In the long term the preservation of our green spaces is an absolute necessity.
Barbara Guthrie, Bushfield Campaign Group, Winchester.
