Wellow and District Branch of the Royal British Legion will commemorate the 65th Anniversary of D-Day in an Act of Remembrance on Saturday at 11am.
Members of the branch will gather at the village war memorial for a short service led by the Rev George Biggs, vicar of St Margaret’s Church, Wellow and St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, who is also a Legion member.
The service will include the reading of a poem about D-Day, the reading of a roll of honour by branch chairman, Brian Brabham, and following the laying of a wreath, a minute’s silence will be offered in remembrance of those killed or injured during the Normandy landings of 1944.
The service will also honour the 13 men of Wellow who were killed in World War Two and John Le Page, who commanded a flotilla of minesweepers during the D-Day invasion and died in Wellow in 2007.
Members of the Woman’s Branch of Wellow Royal British Legion and a representative of Wellow Parish Council will also be in attendance.
