A REVOLUTIONARY electric-powered motorcycle that has been launched by a Hampshire firm is so quiet you probably won’t even hear it coming.

The Zero S, which was unveiled by Zero Motorcycles at Fishers Pond, is powered by a lithium battery which takes three hours to recharge from a 110v outlet.

With a top speed of 60mph, the street motorcycle, which weighs 102kg, can cover up to 60 miles on a single charge and costs under 1p a mile to run.

Neal Saiki, inventor and founder of US-based Zero Motorcycles, said: “The Zero S is a high performance motorcycle that also happens to be fully electric and green.

“The fact that it’s electric means not having to get petrol as well as reduced maintenance.” The $7,750 motorcycle is being sold in the UK by Eastleigh firm ZEV Ltd, a company specialising in zero emission, fuel cell hybrid and electric vehicles.
